If you’ve been following Solo Leveling, you already know that the series mostly focuses on the growth of Sung Jin Woo. And that’s the reason why the series is named Solo Leveling. It is a no-brainer that Jin Woo’s growth is the selling point of the show. Apart from getting stronger himself, Jin Woo has another way to increase his overall fighting power. Can you guess it?… Yes, it is the most fan-favorite move from our MC Jin Woo “Arise“.
Hence, we fans have a very interesting doubt in our minds, that is: Did Sung Jin Woo get Baran after clearing the dungeon in the Demon Castle arc? And the doubt is very much justified, as Baran was a Monarch before his death. He was Monarch of White Flames, to be exact. And if a monarch joins Jin Woo’s shadow soldier army, then that will be epic for us fans. So let’s thoroughly discuss whether Sung Jin Woo was able to acquire Baran as his shadow soldier, and if not, then why?
In this post, we’re diving deep into everything surrounding the involved characters and how their encounter was. So let’s start by understanding the demon monarch himself.
Who Is Baran, the Demon Monarch?
In the Solo Leveling universe, the most powerful beings are rulers and monarchs. Baran was one of the nine monarchs. He was widely known as the Monarch of White Flames and the King of Demons. His appearance can be described by gray skin, glowing white eyes, flame-like hair, and prominent horns. All monarchs have a distinct race for which they are responsible. Like other Monarchs, Baran was the king of Demons.
A long time ago, during the war between the Monarchs and the Rulers, Baran fought alongside his fellow Monarchs under the Absolute Being’s command. However, due to his betrayal, he was killed by Ashborn, the Shadow Monarch. Centuries later, Baran was recreated by Kandiaru to serve as the final boss of the Demon Castle, ruling the 100th floor of the tower.

Sung Jin Woo’s Encounter with Baran
Sung Jin-Woo got a dungeon key after completing double the amount of daily target exercises. That Dungeon key led Jin Woo to his first S-class dungeon, Demon’s Castle. There were a total of 100 floors in the castle. Upon reaching the 100th floor, Jin-Woo met with his last challenge in the dungeon, Baran.
During the battle, Baran summoned a vast demon army and unleashed powerful lightning attacks. Despite the difficulty, Jin-Woo strategically deployed his Shadow Soldiers to counter Baran’s forces. After some back and forth, Sung Jin Woo used his raw strength to rip off Baran’s left arm and deliver a heavy punch to his jaw, which led to the defeat of the Demon Monarch.

Did Sung Jin Woo Get Baran’s Powers After the Battle?
Did Sung Jin-Woo get Baran’s powers after the battle? Well, the answer is no. It’s mostly due to the fact that Baran, who fought with Sung Jin-Woo, was actually not real but just an imitation created by the system.
Baran, the Monarch of White Flames and the King of Demons, was dead for a long time within the Solo Leveling universe. The Baran that Jin-Woo fought in the Demon Castle was not the original but a recreation generated by the System as the 100th-floor boss for Jin-Woo.
Other than that, the skill “Arise” is not perfect. Specifically, it cannot be used on targets with contaminated mana, such as demons, or on artificial constructs created by the System. It’s also a possibility that monarchs and rulers can not be converted into shadow soldiers. Because the previous shadow monarch, Ashborn, didn’t have any monarchs or rulers in his shadow soldiers’ ranks.
What Getting Baran Could Have Meant

If Sung Jin-Woo had succeeded in extracting Baran’s shadow after their battle, Baran would have been the strangest shadow soldier in his shadow soldier army. On the other hand, it would have been bad for the power balance of the show. Giving too much power to Sung Jin Woo will destroy the plot for his growing journey.
In Brief
In summary, Sung Jin Woo didn’t get Baran in the end. But we need to keep in mind that if a fan Service ruins the plot of Solo Leveing it will be bad. We fans need to keep faith in the writer for his art and writing style. Imposing our ideas on the writer might affect the story in a bad way.
