TV Series

The story in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has intense battles and complex relationships. One intriguing connection is between Muzan Kibutsuji (the main antagonist and creator of demons) and Kagaya Ubuyashiki (the wise and serene leader of the Demon Slayer Corps).

Though their roles seem opposite, these two characters share a deep and dark historical link. This link drives much of the series’ conflict. And this blog will discuss their backgrounds, the nature of their relationship, and the historical ties binding them.

The Historical Connection

Are Muzan and Kagaya Related

The connection between Muzan Kibutsuji and the Ubuyashiki family dates back over a thousand years. Muzan accidentally cursed the Ubuyashiki bloodline. Muzan and Kagaya also share a distant blood relationship. The curse resulted from Muzan’s transformation into a demon. It brought shame and misfortune upon his human relatives. This curse manifests as a genetic disorder that affects all male descendants. It caused them to be born weak and die young.

The Ubuyashiki family sought ways to break this curse. They consulted priests who advised dedicating their lives to combating demons. This advice led to the formation of the Demon Slayer Corps. This corps is devoted to eradicating demons and ending Muzan’s reign of terror. So the family’s history is intertwined with their mission to destroy Muzan and lift their lineage’s curse.

Kagaya’s hatred for Muzan is deeply personal. It is driven by his family’s suffering and early deaths due to the curse. Muzan also shows hatred for the Ubuyashiki family as he sees their weakness with contempt.

Muzan Kibutsuji’s Background

Muzan Kibutsuji is the first and most powerful demon in the Demon Slayer series. He was born during Japan’s Heian era. He was declared stillborn

During childhood, Muzan struggled with numerous health issues. People deemed him too weak to survive. He was desperate to live and for that reason, he underwent treatment that transformed him into a demon. This transformation granted him immense power + immortality, and the ability to convert humans into demons by sharing his blood. Muzan’s primary goal was to find a way to overcome his vulnerability to sunlight.

Muzan is also a master manipulator. He can alter his appearance and control his subordinates with ease. Muzan is the leader of the Twelve Kizuki (strongest demons). And he uses them to maintain his dominance and spread fear. According to Muzan, humansare just tools or food for his survival.

Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s Background

Kagaya Ubuyashiki is the 97th leader of the Demon Slayer Corps. This position is passed down through his family for generations. The Ubuyashiki family has a curse due to their distant relation to Muzan Kibutsuji. This curse causes all male family members to suffer from an illness. The illness shortens their lifespans and many times it prevents them from living beyond their 30th year. Even with this suffering, Kagaya shows calmness and wisdom.

Kagaya’s primary goal is to eradicate Muzan and his demonic offspring. He possesses a unique foresight ability that helps him avoid disasters. And it helps him strategically guide the Demon Slayer Corps.

Kagaya’s Demon Slayer Corps Role

Kagaya Ubuyashiki

Kagaya’s leadership qualities are unparalleled even though family curse has severely affected his health. He possesses a unique ability to soothe and inspire those around him.

As I have already mentioned, his strategic foresight is another crucial leadership aspect. He can foresee potential threats and outcomes which allows him to make informed decisions that often save lives and resources. This ability played a significant role in their ongoing Muzan Kibutsuji battle.

Realizing drastic measures were needed to weaken Muzan, Kagaya devised a plan with demon Tamayo. He chose to sacrifice himself in a strategic explosion designed to severely injure Muzan. It gave the Corps a fighting chance in the final battle.

Muzan’s Ubuyashiki Family Perspective

Muzan Kibutsuji

Muzan Kibutsuji’s perspective on the Ubuyashiki family is intense hatred and contempt. Despite being distantly related by blood, Muzan views the family as weak and pathetic while he sees himself as strongest being. This contempt is always increasing as Ubuyashiki family wants to eradicate him forever.

He sees their weakness as a reflection of his own human past. He has always been rejected and despised because of all the suffering. This hatred is so intense that Muzan also prioritizes eliminating the family. He instructs the demons to find the base of the demon slayer corps and destroy it. His desire to eradicate them is not just about survival but also about erasing any human origins connection.

Key Events and Conflicts

Several key events and conflicts highlight the ongoing Muzan Kibutsuji and Ubuyashiki family battle.

Muzan and Kagaya Ubuyashiki confrontation:- This confrontation occurs at the Ubuyashiki home. Muzan attempts to eliminate Kagaya and even in critical health, Kagaya faces Muzan with courage. He uses this encounter to weaken Muzan through a planned explosion. This confrontation is pivotal as it sets the stage for the final Muzan and Demon Slayer Corps battle. This is where Kagaya sacrifices himself in an explosion to weaken Muzan to some extent

Conclusion

The Muzan Kibutsuji and Kagaya Ubuyashiki relationship is a complex shared history with mutual hatred. Muzan’s demon transformation cursed the Ubuyashiki family which tied their fates in suffering and revenge. Kagaya’s Demon Slayer Corps leadership shows the family’s unwavering commitment to end Muzan.
