There are many moments in the story where death seems very near for Yuji. The first one comes early in the series when he is killed after a Sukuna fight but is brought back. That moment already introduces the idea that Yuji’s life will never be safe. He is also burdened by guilt from all the people who die because of Sukuna inside him. After the Shibuya Incident arc, when Sukuna kills hundreds of people while inside Yuji’s body, the trauma becomes even heavier. He believes he does not deserve to live.

Also, his grandfather’s final words were to “save people” and “die surrounded by them.” This itself sounds like a major hint that Yuji will sacrifice himself in the end.

As per the latest manga chapters (up to 271), Yuji is still alive. However, the situation is very tense. The final battle with Sukuna was ongoing. Yuji is taking more and more damage, and the emotional toll is unbearable. Some last chapters even hint that he might use a last-resort move to destroy Sukuna once and for all. But at last, Yuji defeated Sukuna and did not die. So if you are only watching the anime, Yuji is definitely alive. If you are reading the manga, he is still alive for sure and won’t die.

Theories About His Death

Many fans believed that Yuji will die by the end of the story. The most popular theory were that he will die after defeating Sukuna, making the ultimate sacrifice. This would complete his character arc, as someone who wanted a proper death and carried guilt for many years.

Another theory was that Yuji will die but then be reborn or revived in some way. Some characters like Yuta Okkotsu or Shoko Ieiri might use reverse cursed techniques to save him. But again, this were all speculations.

At the end, he and his friends successfully defeated Sukun. While Yuji’s death was a popular fan theory and a possibility discussed by the author, the final chapters of the manga and its epilogue confirm he survives the story.

Why Killing Yuji Makes Sense

Yuji was never meant to be a hero in the traditional sense. His body is a cage for the world’s most dangerous curse. His mission was set from the beginning: to die after consuming all of Sukuna’s fingers. The story itself is dark and realistic. It is not like most shonen anime where the hero always wins and survives. If Gege Akutami (the author) wants to give a tragic and meaningful ending, then killing Yuji would make perfect sense. I mean, if he can let Gojo die, then there was a possibility that the author would also let Yuji Itadori Die die

Conclusion: Does Yuji Itadori Die?

Right now, Yuji Itadori is alive. But the future is uncertain. Death is a constant part of his journey. There are strong chances he might die in the final battle, especially if it means defeating Sukuna. But there is also a chance he survives and carries the weight of his past forever.

For me, I believe Yuji will die at the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen. As Gojo is dead(Even after being one of the most popular character), it makes sense that the show will follow its dark theme
