We fans know how Jujutsu Kaisen shook the anime world. From Gojo’s unbeatable aura to Yuji’s struggles and Sukuna’s terror, every season kept us hooked. Season 2, especially with the Shibuya Incident arc, gave us one of the darkest and most emotional rides in shonen history.
Season 2 ended on December 28, 2023 with Episode 47. It ran for 23 episodes in total. That finale not only closed the Shibuya Incident but also teased the chaos of the Culling Game. Since then, we fans started waiting for the next chapter of the story, Season 3.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Release Date Updates
As of now, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 (The Culling Game) is set to premiere in January 2026. Crunchyroll will stream it worldwide outside Asia. Before TV broadcast, a theatrical compilation ‘JUJUTSU KAISEN: Execution – Shibuya Incident x The Culling Game Begins’ will screen in Japan on November 7, 2025, and in North America on December 5, 2025 (GKIDS).
The sequel adapting the Culling Game arc was first announced on December 28, 2023, right after Season 2 ended. TOHO Animation released a teaser confirming the arc, but no date was attached.
In December 2024, a new “Culling Game” teaser visual was revealed. That same weekend, a Hidden Inventory/Premature Death compilation movie was announced for May 30, 2025 in Japanese theaters. The movie later released in North America on July 16, 2025 through GKIDS. Many fans took this as a sign that TV anime news would follow soon after.
At Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, the series panel confirmed Season 3 is in production. Voice actors Junya Enoki (Yuji) and Megumi Ogata (Yuta) revealed that recording had already begun.

Manga Coverage: What Will Season 3 Adapt

Season 3 has been confirmed to adapt the Culling Game arc, which begins right after the Shibuya Incident. In manga terms, this starts from Chapter 137 and continues through Chapter 221.
This arc is split into three phases:
- Itadori’s Extermination Arc (Chapters 137–143)
- Perfect Preparation Arc (Chapters 144–158)
- Culling Game Arc (Chapters 159–221)
The Culling Game itself spans multiple colonies, including Tokyo No. 1 Colony, Sendai Colony, and Tokyo No. 2 Colony, where deadly battles unfold under Kenjaku’s rules.
After this, the manga heads into its final storyline, the Shinjuku Showdown Arc (Ch. 222 onwards), which ran until the manga’s end on September 30, 2024. That means the anime’s roadmap is clear—Season 3 will fully focus on the Culling Game before the final showdown begins.

How Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen Ended: A Quick Recap
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 aired from July 6 to December 28, 2023 with 23 episodes. The finale, Episode 47: “Shibuya Incident – Gate, Close(d),” left the story in a tense place.
Yuki Tsukumo confronted Pseudo-Geto (Kenjaku) after he absorbed Mahito. Kenjaku then revealed his plan: activating marks across Japan to awaken dormant sorcerers and cursed object vessels. This created new fighters, including Tsumiki Fushiguro. At the same time, he unleashed millions of cursed spirits across the country.
Kenjaku displayed the Prison Realm, confirming that Satoru Gojo remained sealed. Soon after, Jujutsu Headquarters passed shocking rulings:
- Gojo was declared an accomplice and exiled permanently.
- Principal Masamichi Yaga was sentenced to death.
- Yuji’s execution was reinstated, with Yuta Okkotsu appointed as his executioner.
The season closed with Yuta’s dramatic return to Japan, saving a civilian and formally accepting the role of Yuji’s hunter. This cliffhanger directly set up the Culling Game.
Animation Studio and Staff Return for Season 3

The anime remains in the hands of MAPPA, the studio behind both earlier seasons and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. At Anime Expo 2025, staff confirmed that production is underway, with voice recording already started. A special “Juju Stroll” and behind-the-scenes footage were also shown at the event.
Shōta Goshozono, who directed Season 2, is returning to lead the project. Fans will get clearer details during the 5th-anniversary special stream on August 31, 2025 on TOHO Animation’s YouTube channel.
For context, Season 2’s core team included:

- Series Composition: Hiroshi Seko
- Character Designs: Tadashi Hiramatsu & Sayaka Koiso
- Art Director: Junichi Higashi
- Music: Yoshimasa Terui
- Sound Director: Yasunori Ebina
- Animation Production: MAPPA
Until the new credits are published, fans should consider staff news as provisional—but expectations are high that much of the same team will return.
