Is Genos Alive in One Punch Man? Full Manga Explanation

Is Genos Alive in One Punch Man Full Manga Explanation

We fans always had one fear: would Genos actually die? Will we fans have to continue with a lone Saitama after the end of the Monster Association arc? Is Genos alive? This concern is to be expected, as he is one of the most fan-favourite characters in One Punch Man. And if you are also bugged by this question, then you are at the right place.

In this blog post, we will discuss everything. Starting from the brutal scene where Genos’s chest was ripped open and his core pulled out, to how he got his life back.

Is Genos Alive in One Punch Man?

Yes, Genos is alive in the main timeline of both the webcomic and the remake manga. Genos has faced many life-threatening injuries over the years. That includes arms crushed, bodies exploded, armour ripped apart… Ahhh, it’s too brutal to think. But he always came back, rebuilt stronger with the help of Dr Kuseno. These injuries were seen as repairs, not actual death.

But it’s true that Genos died during a fight with Garou. To be specific, in Chapter 165 of the online version, Awakened Garou in Cosmic Fear Mode kills Genos on purpose to make Saitama take the fight seriously. He pierces Genos’ chest and tears out his power core with his bare hands.

It was brutal, emotional, and shocking for both us fans and Saitama. There, we got an iconic manga panel showing Saitama’s shocked face dripping with blood. But after this, time travel got involved. In the erased future, Genos stays dead. However, once Saitama travels back and defeats Garou early, that death never happens in the corrected present. Genos is shown alive with a full body.

Genos’ Death Was a Trigger for Saitama

Genos' Death Was a Trigger for Saitama

Saitama rarely shows emotion. But Genos’ death pushed him into pure rage. During the final part of the Monster Association arc, Garou becomes godlike and starts spreading deadly radiation. Most of the S-Class heroes died on the spot. Garou knew Saitama was holding back. So he kills the one person Saitama actually cares about, Genos. He rips his core out brutally, leaving his body cold and broken.

When Saitama arrives, Garou throws the ripped core of Genos to Saitama. Then he saw the lifeless Genos’ body shattered on the floor. That moment breaks him. No joy, no excitement, no interest in fighting anymore. Just cold fury. This moment is called his “tranquil anger” phase, where he finally lets go of all limits and begins the most serious battle we fans have ever seen.

Saitama’s Time Travel With the Help of Garou

Saitama’s time travel is one of the most insane twists in the story. After Genos’ death and Earth’s near end, Saitama takes on Awakened Garou. After a very intense fight, Saitama defeats Garou on Io, a moon of Jupiter. Garou, now free from God’s influence, saw the destruction he caused and wanted to fix it.

He teaches Saitama a half-complete move that can reverse time by controlling particles like anti-particles. Saitama learns it instantly and copies the move.

God intervenes and kills Garou right there, but it is too late. Saitama’s body starts moving backwards through time. And he carries with him Genos’ severed power core from the future. He jumps back to the moment before Garou caused mass destruction and defeats him in a single punch. Just like that, the timeline resets.

Genos Is Now the Only One Who Knows the Other Timeline

Genos Is Now the Only One Who Knows the Other Timeline

Only one person who remembers the erased future is Genos. After Saitama returns, he is still holding the old power core. When present-day Genos sees it, he connects to it out of curiosity. Suddenly, everything from the Ominous Future rushes into his mind. He sees how he was killed, how the heroes died, and how Saitama went through despair and space battles. He understands the entire timeline that never happened.

Saitama, now merged with his past self, remembers none of it. So when Genos explains the whole thing, Saitama just listens and shrugs. He does not care about timelines or paradoxes. But Genos does. Now he carries memories from both the current world and the destroyed one, making him the only person in One Punch Man who knows exactly what Saitama did to save them all.

Is Genos Alive in the Latest One-Punch Man Manga?

Yes, Genos is fully alive and active in the latest manga chapters. He appears in post-Monster Association arcs like the Narinki Park sequence. In Chapter 216, Genos meets with Saitama and discusses the strange events around Sweet Mask. He is back to working as an S-Class Rank 11 hero, and there are no signs of him being injured or unstable.

His encounter with the old core in Chapter 174 confirms that he remembers the erased future, but physically, he is fine.

Final thoughts

It is wild how far Genos has come. From a serious, revenge-filled cyborg to someone who now holds memories of a future no one else knows. And he is still one of the most fan-favourite characters in the series. We fan knows that the comics scenes of One Punch Man will not be the same without Genos. He is the perfect sidekick for Saitama, and no one can replace him.

What do you think about the future of Genos in One Punch Man? Do you believe his knowledge of the erased timeline will matter later? And as a fan, are you relieved? Share your thoughts in the comments below
