Sometimes, you finish an anime and just sit in silence. Not because something shocking happened, but because you could relate to something deep. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is one of those animes. It does not rush and gives you a well-balanced pace to feel the anime at it’s core.
Season 1 gave you that soft pain that stays with you long after the screen fades to black. Now, Season 2 is officially on its way. Let us go through what you can expect next, from the recap to the arcs, and where you can stream it when it drops.
When is Frieren Season 2 Release Date
The official announcement for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 came during Anime Expo 2025.
There, the cast and staff revealed that the new season will premiere in January 2026. A fresh teaser visual was also shown. Featuring Frieren, Fern, and Stark at a hot spring.
The studio behind it, Madhouse, is handling the animation again. The same team that made Season 1 is continuing their work in Season 2. So you can expect the same level of art style and quality from season 2 as well.

A Quick Recap of Season 1
The story starts when the hero’s journey ends. The Demon King is already defeated. The heroes return home. And Frieren, the elven mage who fought alongside them, continues to live her long life. But when she returns fifty years later, she finds her friends have aged. Himmel, the brave and cheerful hero, dies soon after they reunite.
For the first time, Frieren feels regret. She realizes she never truly understood Himmel. That is when she begins a quiet new journey—not to fight evil, but to understand people and to grow as a character.
Along the way, she takes in Fern, a young mage raised by Heiter and Stark, and a nervous but kind-hearted warrior trained by Eisen. Together, they explore some nostalgic places along the journey.
We fans watched Season 1 across 28 episodes, airing from September 2023 to March 2024. It adapted the manga up to the end of the “Departure from the Journey” arc (chapters 1–29).
What Arcs Will Be Covered in Season 2?
Season 2 will start right after the events of Season 1 and will cover the “First-Class Mage Exam” arc.
This arc brings a lot of challenges for Frieren. She needs to pass a tough exam that tests not only her magic skills but also her ability to work with a team. For someone who is struggling to understand human emotions, it will be quite a challenge for her.
After this arc, the story continues into the “Continued Northern Travels”. Frieren, Fern, and Stark keep moving toward the land of the dead. She was hoping to reach the place where she might be able to speak with the souls she had lost.
